S’mores joined our family on February 6, 2025. Friendly, affectionate, and eager to be involved in whatever is happening around her, she quickly became a beloved member of the growing resident dog family.

At the time, we knew very little about her family history. That changed a few weeks later when we learned that her mother, Shania, was still waiting for a home. Having already begun to recognize the importance of keeping canine families together whenever possible, we knew we could not leave that story unfinished.

S’mores became part of a growing realization that family connections matter. Her adoption not only brought her into our lives but ultimately led to the reunion of a mother and daughter. Today, her story continues to represent the importance of connection, belonging, and second chances.

Sprinkles joined our family on February 11, 2025, alongside her son, Gelato. Calm, attentive, and devoted to her puppy, she arrived during an important stage of his development.

By that point, we had already experienced the situation with S’mores and Shania. Having seen how important family connections could be, we began asking questions before finalizing adoptions. When we learned that Gelato’s mother was still available, we made the decision to keep them together rather than risk separating them.

Sprinkles became another example of a principle that was increasingly shaping our decisions: whenever possible, families belong together. Her story reflects the value of stability, companionship, and preserving the relationships that matter most.

Gelato joined our family on February 11, 2025, alongside his mother, Sprinkles. At the time, he was still nursing and had only recently reached the minimum age required for adoption. Curious, playful, and full of youthful energy, he quickly became one of the youngest members of the resident dog family.

Until that point, most of our dogs had been medium- and large-breed dogs. Gelato represented a conscious decision to expand our understanding of canine personalities, behaviors, and needs by welcoming one of the smallest dogs we had ever adopted.

Because of what we had recently experienced with S’mores and Shania, we immediately asked about Gelato’s mother. When we learned Sprinkles was still available, the decision was easy. Their adoption became another example of our commitment to preserving family bonds whenever possible.

Today, Gelato remains a reminder that size has little to do with the impact a dog can have on the people around them.

Shania joined our family on February 26, 2025, after we learned that she was S’mores’ mother and was still waiting for a home at the rescue. Affectionate, attentive, and deeply connected to her family, she quickly settled into life alongside her daughter.

After S’mores had already been adopted, we discovered that Shania remained at the rescue. Once we realized they had been separated, the decision to reunite them became clear. Bringing Shania home allowed a mother and daughter to be together again and reinforced the importance of preserving family connections whenever possible.

Her adoption helped strengthen a principle that continues to guide our mission today: whenever possible, family relationships deserve to be preserved rather than separated. Shania’s story remains an important part of that philosophy and continues to influence many of the decisions we make.

Spunky joined our family on April 12, 2025, but in many ways, her story began the day Punky was adopted seven months earlier. As Punky’s sister, Spunky was never forgotten. Even after other dogs joined the family, her name continued to come up in conversations and plans for the future.

Energetic, expressive, and impossible to overlook, Spunky remained at the rescue longer than expected. When we learned she had become one of the rescue’s longer-term residents, we knew it was time to bring her home.

Her adoption reunited two sisters who had started life together and became one more example of the commitment to keeping families intact whenever possible. Spunky’s journey reminds us that some second chances simply take a little longer to arrive.

Dunn joined our family on April 12, 2025, during what was expected to be a visit focused entirely on Spunky’s adoption.

While finalizing paperwork, a young dog we had never met before repeatedly jumped, pawed at the kennel, and locked eyes with us from across the room. We didn’t know his name yet. We didn’t know his story. But he acted as though he already knew us.

Moments later, we learned that Shania—the dog we had adopted just weeks earlier—still had one puppy remaining at the rescue. That puppy was Dunn.

The moment we approached him, he greeted us like someone he had been waiting for. We adopted him that day, reuniting him with both his mother and his sister. Dunn’s story remains one of the clearest examples of the family-centered philosophy that continues to shape New Purpose Canine Foundation.

Mabel joined our family on April 17, 2025. As a young Cane Corso, she brought confidence, intelligence, and a strong presence to the growing resident dog family. From the beginning, it was clear that she possessed both curiosity and a willingness to learn.

However, Mabel’s story was never only about her. When we learned that she had a sister, we faced a familiar decision—one that had already guided several adoptions before her. Keeping siblings together whenever possible had become an important principle, and Mabel’s story would continue that tradition.

Today, she remains an important part of the resident dog family and a reminder that individual decisions can eventually shape a larger mission.

Gladys joined our family on April 17, 2025, alongside her sister Mabel. Affectionate, curious, and closely bonded to her sibling, she quickly became an important part of the resident dog family.

Her adoption reflected a pattern that had already emerged throughout our journey. Time and again, opportunities arose to keep siblings together, reunite family members, and provide stability for dogs whose lives had been marked by uncertainty. Gladys became another chapter in that story.

Together, Gladys and Mabel represent the importance of companionship, family connections, and lifelong commitment. Their story continues to reflect the values that help guide New Purpose Canine Foundation today.

Luna joined our family in December 2025 after coming to the attention of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office following a residential fire. Unlike the other resident dogs who arrived through adoption partnerships, Luna's path to New Purpose Canine Foundation began through a local emergency that disrupted her life and future.

Adjusting to a new environment took time. During her first week, Luna occasionally wandered beyond the property boundaries, still learning where home was and where she belonged. With patience, consistency, and the support of the other resident dogs, she gradually settled into her new surroundings and began forming lasting bonds.

Today, Luna is a valued member of the resident dog family. Her story serves as a reminder that stability is not always immediate, but with time, trust, and opportunity, even unexpected beginnings can lead to a new chapter.

Leviathan joined our family in December 2025  alongside Luna after both dogs became connected to a local situation involving the Delaware County Sheriff's Office. Like Luna, his arrival represented a different path into the foundation—one rooted not in a planned adoption, but in responding to circumstances that had suddenly changed a dog's future.

From the beginning, Leviathan displayed a strong awareness of his surroundings and a steady presence within the resident dog family. As he adapted to his new environment, he became part of the growing community of dogs whose lives help shape the mission and daily work of New Purpose Canine Foundation.

Together, Leviathan and Luna expanded the resident dog family beyond its original beginnings and reinforced an important lesson: every dog's journey is different. Some arrive through adoption, some through unexpected circumstances, but all deserve the opportunity for safety, stability, and a place to belong.
